Recently, John Klosner, founder of History Capture, sat down with Voyage Denver for a featured interview to discuss his passion for video biography, how the pandemic inspired his business, and why preserving family stories matters now more than ever.

Voyage Denver: Thanks for joining us, John! Can you kick things off by introducing yourself and sharing the journey that brought you to where you are today?

John Klosner: Thanks for having me! History Capture really started from a personal place. As a videographer, I was looking for a way to preserve my own grandparents’ memories before those moments slipped away. It’s easy for priceless family stories to fade over time simply because there isn’t a convenient way to document them. That’s why History Capture was created—out of a deep commitment to safeguard a treasure trove of personal stories that honor the wisdom and experiences of the people sharing them.

Voyage Denver: What is the core mission and vision behind History Capture?

John Klosner: Our guiding principle is very straightforward: “Preserving a generational legacy.” We look at life stories as irreplaceable heirlooms, so our priority is making our services accessible and budget-friendly for anyone who wants to leave a lasting impact. Our goal is to offer a dependable service that records family history and makes it simple to share with relatives near and far, bridging the gap between generations and keeping family legacies alive.

Voyage Denver: What specific services do you provide, and who is your primary audience in the Denver Metro Area?

John Klosner: Operating out of the Denver Metro area, History Capture is a boutique video biography company. We specialize in high-end video interviews, rich audio recordings, and high-resolution scanning for physical photos.

Our team of videographers and storytellers focuses on capturing the true emotion and heart of every story, treating each memory with precision and care. We primarily serve three groups:

  • Individuals & Seniors (50+): People who want to document their life lessons, achievements, and personal journeys for those who come after them.

  • Families: Children and grandchildren looking to honor an aging parent, celebrate a major milestone, or archive their genealogy.

  • Local Communities: We collaborate with retirement homes, senior living spaces, and assisted living facilities to host group legacy interviews, cover community events, and build interactive “Story Walls.”

Whether someone wants to record their own history, honor a family member, or give a uniquely personal gift, we use tailored interview coaching and professional editing to ensure those stories are preserved forever.

Voyage Denver: Let’s talk about the path to getting here. Has it been a smooth journey, or have you faced significant obstacles along the way?

John Klosner: It definitely had its hurdles. History Capture actually originated during the COVID-19 lockdowns. At the time, I was mainly working as a live event videographer, but when events stopped, my equipment was stuck in storage. I hadn’t been able to visit my grandmothers on either side of the family in nearly a year because of strict facility lockdowns.

When they finally opened up limited, once-a-week visits, my mom asked if I could bring my camera gear along to record my grandmothers talking about their lives. Nobody knew when we’d get to see them next, so that single request from my mother set everything in motion. After moving around Florida for a bit, I eventually settled in Colorado, where I was able to dedicate myself fully to turning History Capture into a dedicated service for families. I want to help people record the memories that would otherwise be lost. Everyone assumes there’s always more time, but you never truly know when that opportunity might disappear.

Voyage Denver: What else should our readers know about your work and current projects?

John Klosner: At its core, History Capture is a documentary service that turns personal histories into cinematic, high-end interview films. We capture everything from childhood stories to hard-earned life wisdom before those memories slip away.

What brings me the most pride is giving families something permanent. Coming out of the uncertainty of the pandemic, knowing that I can offer families peace of mind by capturing their loved ones’ voices, laughs, and personalities forever is deeply fulfilling.

Voyage Denver: What personal quality or trait do you feel has been most critical to your success?

John Klosner: My approach is definitely what sets me apart. Because of my background in filming live event speakers, I know how to handle high-stakes storytelling on the fly. But filming personal biographies requires a totally different skill set: patience, empathy, and building real trust.

I don’t just set up a camera and push record. I focus on building a comfortable, relaxed environment where people feel safe opening up—especially those who start out camera-shy or feel like their life “isn’t interesting enough” to be recorded.
