The Story Of Sue Klosner
Meet Sue Klosner, a Ohio native who built a life from grit, grace, and good humor. An executive secretary who once worked for the chairman of Pillsbury in Minneapolis, Sue Ann mastered shorthand and typing, dressed to the nines for the office, and later brought those skills to Sarasota. She remembers childhood in a Model A with a rumble seat, a dad who managed an Elks Club and a refinery cafeteria, and a grandmother who taught her real cooking, from homemade noodles to canning beets. After her first husband passed, she looked at a map, picked Florida by eeny meeny miny moe, and landed in Sarasota. A friend arranged a ride from Russ Closner, and the airport pickup turned into a partnership. They married at a Catholic church on March 17, 1987, celebrated with a cruise, and shared years of colorful stories that still make the family laugh.
Sue raised Doug and Brenda, weathered teen adventures that included a classroom snake and a steady stream of pets, and kept family traditions alive with gardens, jams, and Sunday dinners. She skated on frozen ponds as a girl, loved rolling in fresh snow, and cherished heirlooms like her great‑grandmother’s 150‑year‑old bed and rocking chair. There were Sarasota chapters too, from a memorable houseboat that could drift wherever the wind pleased, to a front‑row seat for kids and grandkids finding their way. Through it all, her compass stayed true, be kind, pitch in, and enjoy the everyday moments that make a life.
